Durga and Her Family Have a Latrine!
posted April 1, 2011
Durga and family live in Rampurwa Village in rural Nepal. Ethnically, they are Dalits, often called “untouchables”, who face stark social and economic discrimination. The Living Earth Institute has been working together with a local NGO, Development Alternative Organization (Bikas Bikalpa Sanstha), to drastically improve sanitation facilities and health awareness in Rampurwa. The project works with the local community to define their needs and provides the organization and resources for the village to meet them. This project also provides employment for Durga as a village maintenance worker helping all families with construction and maintenance activities for new water supply and sanitation systems.
Thanks to all of your collective generosity, this family has access to proper sanitation for the first time! The positive impact of your gift to their health is immense and the outlook for the future is much brighter. Today the Mainali family can experience a healthier life because of to you.
Thank you for providing a latrine for this family! A big thanks to Mike for providing three shares of the latrine. Thank you!
