Access to sanitation helps another Nepali family
posted March 25, 2011
Chandrakala lives in Rampurwa, Nepal. She is married but lives alone with her 2 children as her husband has left the village in search of better employment than what he can find in their village. Chandrakala and her family often face discrimination, because of their ethnicity as indigenous Tharu people, and they live in an area seldom reached by other development programs. The Living Earth Institute has been working together with a local NGO, Development Alternative Organization (Bikas Bikalpa Sanstha), to drastically improve sanitation facilities and health awareness in the rural Rampurwa Village. The project works with the local community to define their needs and provides the organization and resources for the village to meet them.
Lack of proper sanitation facilities have long been understood as the largest negative impact on public health. Thanks to your donations, this family now has access to a latrine! Your donations provide access to proper sanitation for Chandrakala and her family. The positive impact of your gift to their health and livelihood is beyond what can be easily explained or understood. Today this family can experience a much healthier life because of to you.
Thank you all for your gift–especially to Laurent for providing two shares of a latrine! Thank you!
