Hardindra and Her Family Have a Latrine!
posted March 7, 2011

Hardindra Chaudary lives in Rampurwa Village in rural Nepal. She is widowed and cared for by her granddaughter, Pramila. Ethnically, Hardindra and her family are of the Dalit “caste”, often called “untouchables”. She and her community often face stark social and economic discrimination and are typically overlooked by other development organizations. The Living Earth Institute has been working together with a local NGO, Development Alternative Organization (Bikas Bikalpa Sanstha), to define their needs and provide the organization and resources for the village to meet them.
Lack of proper sanitation facilities have long been understood as the largest negative impact on public health. With your donations, you have all allowed Hardindra and her family to have access to proper sanitation; they now have a latrine! The positive impact of your gift to their health and livelihood is beyond what can be easily explained or understood. Today this family can experience a healthier life because of to you.
Thank you all for your generosity. A big thank you to Charlie for providing two shares of a latrine for this family.
