The Thami Family Loves their New Latrine!
posted February 9, 2011

A lack of proper sanitation facilities have long been understood as the largest negative impact on public health. Today the Thami family, and especially these children, can experience a healthier life and a brighter future! The children are more successful in school and, coupled with improved access to water, they have a much better chance of reaching a healthy adulthood.
The Living Earth Institute has been working together with a local NGO, Development Alternative Organization (Bikas Bikalpa Sanstha), to drastically improve sanitation facilities and health awareness in Rampurwa. The project works with the local community to define their needs and provides resources for the village to meet them. This project also provides employment for local villagers and carries out literacy and income generation training for local women. These activities go beyond basic new water supply and sanitation systems construction and are essential for long term project sustainability.
Eran, Eddie, Bill, Alice and Brad, George, Sven, Chris, Gillian (two shares!), and Tobias–Thank you for your gift! You have all provided a family with a resource often taken for granted. They are eternally grateful!
